Hypnosis

How can it help?

Our understanding of hypnosis has advanced considerably during the last century and we no longer believe in the mythical figure with a pocket watch that can compel us to do his ‘bidding’.

Hypnosis can be characterised by three things-

  • Intense Concentration
  • Extreme relaxation
  • High suggestibility

The common view of hypnosis is that t is a trance like altered state of consciousness – however, it is not sleep.  Whilst in a state of hypnosis you can be aware of everything that is going on around you, you simply have a much stronger internal focus and a wonderful sense of deep calm and relaxation.

People vary in the degree and depth of trance which they experience. A small number go into a very deep trance state whilst at the other end of the spectrum, there are those who experience; the majority lie somewhere in between.  The important aspect of trance, whether it is light or deep is that the hypnotists is able communicate with the client's unconscious mind.

The unconscious stores memories, experiences and skills which are not in conscious awareness. Some of the store of unconscious material is available to the conscious mind, but not all. In the trance state, much more is available.

An able and experienced hypnotist is able to access the unconscious mind and uses this process to help client solve their difficulties / challenges and improve their situation or performance.

Hypnosis can be used to alleviate a variety of presenting issues such as –

  • Stress
  • Fears/phobias
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Self-esteem
  • Confidence
  • Insomnia
  • Public speaking
  • Bad Habits
  • Exam nerves
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • And many more

What happens in a session?

In the first session the hypnotist will be finding out a little bit about you and why you have decided to seek hypnosis treatment.

Basic information:  Name, address date of birth etc will be required plus general background information that may be relevant to the presenting issue.  The point of this is to ensure the hypnotist has enough relevant information to provide you with the best and most appropriate technique for your particular issue.

You will be given the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and no question is regarded as silly.

Hypnosis is a natural state of altered consciousness which enables you (the individual) to access your own inner resources; the hypnotist is the catalyst that helps you to do this.  It is natural, safe and a very relaxing experience with no harmful side affects.
